What is an SMS alarm system?
An SMS alarm dialer is an automated system designed to send alert messages by SMS to the relevant people when faults, anomalies or emergencies are detected.
It continuously monitors equipment or processes using sensors or software, and sends alerts in real time as soon as a problem occurs.
Used in many fields such as industry, maintenance, security and infrastructure management, these devices play a key role in preventing damage, reducing downtime and improving safety.
The limits of alarm dialers
The recipients of messages sent by an alarm dialer are usually configured directly in the dialer's software. Until now, there have been two main ways to set this up, each with its own drawbacks:
- Sending all SMS alerts to a single mobile phone, often called the "on-call phone". This means on-call technicians have to physically hand the phone over to one another so that whoever is on duty receives the alerts. It also requires the technician to be in an area with good network coverage to be sure of receiving the messages.
- Programming the numbers of every on-call technician into the dialer, so alerts go to several recipients at once. While this may seem to avoid handing over a phone, it has the downside of also disturbing technicians who are not on duty, cutting into their time off.
